Dear Students, Pastors and Friends,
I would like to use this newsletter for an opportunity to briefly mention and remind you of three things concerning the ministry of John Leland Baptist College.
First, while John Leland is foremost a school for Biblical studies, we have a program in which students can develop a “minor” or “major” in just about any academic field they wish by taking a limited number of courses, not currently available at Leland, at one of the many colleges or universities in the Northern Kentucky or Lexington areas. This is an ideal opportunity for anyone in our Baptist fellowship to earn a college degree in virtually any field while attending a Baptist college of like faith and order.
The second matter I would like to mention is that while some Baptist schools, in the past and present, have tended to revolve around the ministry of one man or one church, it has been our purpose from day one to make John Leland Baptist College “our” college in which all the Baptist Pastors and qualified members of supporting churches can both teach and have a role in the oversight of the college. We genuinely desire to build a college that reflects a consensus of the theological knowledge and wisdom that God has given to our Baptist fellowship.
Furthermore, we need a fully accredited college that will continue long after its founder passes on. We need an institution where our young people will be unharmed by the immorality so often found in secular colleges or be led astray by the often serious doctrinal error of some interdenominational college. If we pulled together, we could build and maintain a college that would be second to none. There is no reason for our young people who desire to attend a Christian college and meet other young people of like faith and order to settle for some interfaith Arminian college. With a little cooperation we could build a college that our young people would be proud to attend and graduate from.
The third thing I would like to mention is that I would like the opportunity to present the work of the college to your church. We need your financial support. An endeavor like this can only be accomplished with the financial help of sister churches.
I trust the Lord will stir your heart to help us in this important endeavor. We are truly in a battle today for the hearts and minds of our young people.
Sincerely and in Christ,
Wm. Van Nunen
Dean
